SAN DIEGO---The Chattanooga Mocs are 10th after 36 holes at the NCAA Rancho Santa Fe Regionals. The Mocs 8-over 288 Tuesday gives the team a 2-day total of 582. That's just one behind the 8th-place duo of No. 10 Washington and South Florida with 18 holes remaining at the Farms Golf Club..

It was Garrett Engle's day to lead. He shot 1-under 69 which was one better than Samuel Espinosa's 70 and two clear John Houk with a second 71. Paul Conroy and Braedon Wear had matching 78s.

It was a steady start. The Mocs made pars starting on the treacherous back nine turning at 5 over. The turn was kind with the group shaving the total by two shots after a 3 under run through the par 4 fourth hole and an Engle birdie on the fifth. The last two holes took a bite out of that momentum with two doubles and a bogey to push the score back to 8 over.

"We had three guys play really solid rounds out there today," Coach Blaine Woodruff shared. "Everyone fought until the end. I these guys will give it all they've got tomorrow. There have been a lot of famous Regional comebacks…why not us?

"I'll never count this group out."

Houk is the Mocs leader through two days. His 2-over 142 is tied for 14th overall. Espinosa and Engle are both tied for 25th with 145s. Conroy is next at 150 followed by Wear's 154.

North Florida retained its first-round lead with 563. That's one better than Cal and two clear of West Virginia. Oklahoma State (566) and Oklahoma (568) complete the key top five spots. The Golden Bears Sampson Zheng is the individual leader at 5-under 135. The current leader for advancing as an individual to the finals is San Diego's Andi Xu at 2 under.

The field returns to the Farms at 11 a.m., Eastern time. The Mocs open on No. 10 paired with Kansas and Wright State beginning with Wear at 12:25 p.m. Conroy, Engle, Espinosa and Houk follow.
