Softball Takes on 15 Seed Florida State Friday in NCAA

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --- The Chattanooga softball team is in Tallahassee, Fla., to take on 15 Seed Florida State Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m., in the NCAA Regional.
 
MOCS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
This is Chattanooga's 13th appearance in the NCAA Region. UTC is 7-24 all-time with wins over Army, Florida Atlantic (2), Illinois-Chicago, Jackson State, Memphis and Murray State.

MOCS VS. THE FIELD
Chattanooga is 3-17 all-time against the other three teams in the Tallahassee Regional. Florida State has won all eight contests including two in the NCAA Tournament (2002, 2008). UTC is 2-6 against Auburn and 1-3 against UCF.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (42-14, 16-5 SoCon)
The Mocs swept four of the seven series in the Southern Conference and claimed its 15th SoCon regular season title. UTC finished the season three games up on second place UNCG. In the SoCon Tournament, the Mocs were dropped into the losers bracket after falling to UNCG on Friday. That was followed with a win over 3-seed Samford later that same day. The Mocs and Spartans faced off a second time, but UTC prevailed and forced the "if" game with a 5-0 shutout. Chattanooga got the 9-5 win over UNCG for its 16th SoCon Tournament title.
 
Five Chattanooga players are hitting above .300 and three are within striking distance. The Mocs are hitting .304 as a team. UTC has 52 home runs, 81 doubles and 21 triples this season with 276 RBI and 304 runs scored.
 
Camryn Cernuto leads the Mocs with a .359 batting average. She has a .404 on-base percentage and leads the team with four triples. She leads the nation for sac hits per game, averaging .39 per game. Kaili Phillips is right behind her with a .357 batting average. She has a team-best 15 home runs, has 40 RBI and a 1.294 slugging percentage. She leads the Mocs with a .494 on-base percentage, has 13 doubles, two triples, 24 walks and has reached base 15 times on hit by pitch. Olivia Lipari is third on the team in hitting at .344 and leads the team with 31 walks with a .456 on-base percentage. Jayce Purdy is ranked fifth in the NCAA for caught stealing by. She has thrown out 17 this season.
 
ACCOLADES GALORE
Peja Goold was named the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player and the league's Pitcher of the Year. Kaili Phillips earned the SoCon Pinnacle Award giving to the student-athlete on the winning team with the highest GPA. She was also an all-tournament selection and named to the league all-conference second team for a second straight year. Kendall Forsythe was named to the SoCon all-tournament and all-conference first team. Camryn Cernuto was named all-conference first team while Baileigh Pitts, Alyssa Lavdis and Kailey Snell were named to the second team.
 
Chattanooga had five student-athletes named the SoCon Softball Player of the Week and four earned Pitcher of the Week honors. Kaili Phillips was named the SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week twice.
