CHATTANOOGA (September 20, 2024) – Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis senior
Gabriel Castillo will compete this week at the 2024 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., which runs from September 21-29 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Castillo is set to compete in the event for the third-straight season after transferring to UTC for the 2022-23 season following a rookie campaign at Marist. In just two seasons with the Mocs, Castillo has earned a pair of All-Southern Conference selections and enters the upcoming season with a 40-27 overall singles record.
"We are excited for Gabe to represent the SoCon in this prestigious event," said head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "He's worked hard his entire career, and he played in a lot of tournaments this summer. He is ready to compete."
The collegiate season looks a bit different in 2024 as the NCAA Division I Individual Championships will now commence during the fall cycle. The two-year pilot program delivers an accessible pathway for entries into the 2024 & 2025 NCAA Championships through designated qualifying events, which includes this week's All-American Championships.

- Singles: Pre-Qualifying (128), Qualifying (64), Main Draw (64)
- Doubles: Pre-Qualifying (32), Qualifying (32), Main Draw (32)
Number of NCAA Championship Auto-Qualifying Berths Available:
- Singles (10): Eight (8) main draw quarterfinalists & two (2) feed-in consolation finalists.
- Doubles (4): Four (4) main draw semifinals.
