CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs wrestling team is home again. New Year, same venue. McKenzie Arena is set to host the annual Southern Scuffle. More than 20 teams take on the 2-day gauntlet with an eye on great opportunity ahead.

"This is still a premier tournament," Coach Kyle Ruschell noted.  "If you go out there and do well, you're on people's radars. It'll set you up in the rankings or set yourself up to be in that RPI later in the season.

"For the tournament itself, it's great to see our administration, alumni and community come back, give back and watch some great wrestling. Some people have been here for the whole 15 years that we've had it and are still giving back by running tables, helping in the hospitality room and such. It just goes to show the community that Chattanooga has."

The Mocs have close to twenty-five of the 300+ field ready to take the mat Saturday morning. They look to improve on last year's eighth-place finish which was the third top 10 in the event all-time for the program and first since earning seventh in the 2012 edition.

Three are seeded led by Noah Castillo at No. 2 in the 157 bracket. Blake Boarman and Sergio Desiante are both fourth at 133 and 174; respectively. Seeded or not, that opportunity word popped back up with Ruschell pivoting to talk about his squad.

"We want to continue to do what we've been doing as a team," he added. "We wrestled together for the first time in a long time on that last road trip. I want to see our guys competing hard, wrestling for each other and just leaving their full effort out there.

"That's going to give them the best opportunity to win no matter who they are."

The doors open at 8 a.m., Saturday with matches running throughout the day beginning at 9 a.m. Move those time back an hour on Sunday leading into the finals at 3 p.m.
