Wrestling Room Upgrades Make Major Impact

Chattanooga Mocs Wrestling Coach Kyle Ruschell shares the massive impact the new wrestling on the program.

When I joined the Chattanooga Mocs, a new wrestling room was a distant dream. We had limited space sharing the auxiliary gym, but I always believed that one day we would have a top-tier facility.  Today, that dream is a reality, and it's a sight to behold.

Our new wrestling room is nothing short of a masterpiece. Every detail has been meticulously designed, from the extra rubber flooring around the mats to the glass wall separating the two gyms. When you walk into this space, it's jaw-dropping. It's everything we envisioned, and then some. This facility is more than just a wrestling room; it's a testament to the commitment and support of our community.

It's a place where our athletes can train and grow, and it's a reflection of the pride and passion here for Chattanooga wrestling.

A Space Like No Other
In the realm of wrestling practice facilities, our new room ranks among the best in the nation. It's a top 15, if not a top 10, facility in the country. The ability to have everything in one space, from cardio equipment to ample mat space, provides our athletes with the tools they need to succeed.

It's now up to us to translate this state-of-the-art environment into success on the mat. It wouldn't have been possible without the support of our donors and the relationships we've built over the years. Their contributions go far beyond financial support; they are the backbone of our community. I am immensely grateful to our alumni who contributed to this project.

This new wrestling room is a source of pride for them, a place they can visit with their families and say, "I wrestled here."  It's a testament to the deep connection our alumni have with this university and this program.

A Source of Pride
As we prepare for homecoming and welcome back previous generations of wrestlers, I'm excited to share this space with them. Pictures and videos don't do it justice. It's something they need to see in person to truly appreciate.

It's a space that symbolizes the care and dedication this University has for its program. In a time when some universities are scaling back in wrestling, UTC stands out as a place that values and invests in its program. This facility impacts 30 to 32 wrestlers year-in and year-out, and it's proof to the strong support that surrounds us.

Looking Forward
But it's not just about the facility; it's about what's next for our program. We're focused on training hard, recruiting the right athletes and building a winning culture. We're also working on locker room upgrades to provide our athletes with the space they need to bond and grow as a team. This new wrestling room is a significant step forward, but it's just the beginning. We're moving in the right direction, and with continued support and dedication, we're positioning ourselves to compete not only within our conference but also on a national level.

At the end of the day, championships aren't won by facilities but by people.

This new wrestling room is about the people who care about Chattanooga wrestling and are willing to do whatever it takes to help our athletes succeed. Whether it's in the room or in the community, our supporters are committed to making sure our athletes are successful as long as they're willing to fight and be proud of representing Chattanooga. With this new room, we're ready to take on the future and continue building on the legacy of excellence in Chattanooga Mocs wrestling.
