Rusty Wright, head coach
Opening statement after 49-13 victory at Samford.
"It's really good. Especially with these young guys. I'm proud of these players and these coaches. It was a little tough early, and the staff never flinched. We're doing some things defensively that we haven't typically done in the past. We're doing some different things than we're used to, to try and be successful. Our kids kept playing today and we won on the road. That's all that matters."
Â
On facing Samford's pace.
"The offense they're in, they have to throw the ball and make a lot of completions. I don't think they were committed to running the ball, and they have to go make plays too, I think we ended up in a lot of good spots today. When you can force incompletions and not allow that offense to get in the ryhtym, it really helped slow things down for our guys."
Â
On playing a complete game.
"We talk about playing a full four-quarter game, in all-three phases. We are getting closer to that point. I thought the kicking teams were fantastic today. There are so many little things that are truly a big deal for us. We work really hard at it."
Â
On the team growing.
"It's getting closer. It is. I didn't know what was going to happen today, they don't have much to lose on that side. We've gotten a lot better from week one to now. Our kids are growing up. I'm not sure when it's all going to happen, but we're growing. We're not a complete football team. I love that they feel winning, it really keeps spirits up. We just have to continue to keep growing.
Â
Camden Orth, QB-Gr.
On today's win.
"Obviously have to clean some things up, but it's always good to come get a win on the road. We're just happy for the result. The guys up front allowed for a lot of our success and it's fun to see what these receivers can do."
Â
AJ Little, WR-RSo.
On playing multiple different roles.
"I'm just doing my part. Whatever the team needs me do, I want to do it. I don't care what it is. I'll go take a snap at quarterback if I have to."
Â
On the team growing after a slow start.
"We never dwell on anything. That first part of the season was hard. It was tough, but we never let it settle with us. We know it's a long season."
Â
KJ Sejour, Fr.-DB
On what he saw during interception.
"I was sitting back in zone and I saw the quarterback scrambling out. I just wanted to crash it and hope he threw me one. Thankfully it happened."
Â
CJ Smith, Fr.-DT
On this young group playing a vital role.
"We have to buy-in. We all come in as a group and we just get after it. We are all bought-in and we want to be ready when our numbers are called. You never know when that's going to happen. You have to stay ready."
