First Word
"We just got our butts whipped all night. Me too. Evidently, we were not good enough to do the things we were trying to do. That is a very good football team, but when you don't do the basic things correctly, and I don't care if it's blocking a certain way, running a route a certain way or being in your gap a certain way on defense. Whatever it is when you don't do those things correctly against a really good football team, it gets exposed." – Coach Rusty Wright

Breakdown
  • The game started well for the Mocs. True freshman defensive back Kamari Todd intercepted a Braden Atkinson offering and returned it 34 yards to the Bears 24. Twelve more yards were tacked on for a late hit. The offense got to the five but had to settle for a 24-yard Jude Kelley field goal.
  • Mercer answered with scoring drives on eight of the next nine drives converting on a couple of Mocs turnovers to take control of the game.
  • The Bears won the line of scrimmage holding the Mocs to 198 yards of total offense while gaining 545 yards of their own.
  • Markell Quick and Battle Alberson teamed up for a strong TD drive early in the fourth quarter. Alberson expertly utilized play action hitting Quick on the slant for a 57-yard catch-and-run that set up a 7-yard score on the very next play for the duo.
  • Ryan Ingram added a 1-yard touchdown just past the midpoint of the fourth quarter.
