Fourth Quarter Surge Lifts Mocs Past Lipscomb, 59-56

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga women's basketball team used a dominant fourth-quarter run to rally past Lipscomb, earning a hard-fought 59-56 road victory Sunday afternoon at Allen Arena.

Trailing 44-41 entering the final frame, the Mocs (2-1) erupted with an 11-0 run over the first three minutes, flipping the script and seizing control of the game. Gianna Corbitt sparked the surge with a putback and a three-point play. Caia Elisaldez capped it off with a fast-break bucket to make it 52-44 with 6:58 remaining. The Mocs held Lipscomb without a bucket for five minutes and 47 seconds, extending its run to 15-1 and shot 47 percent in the final period.

Corbitt and Ford each poured in 15 points to lead the Mocs, with Corbitt adding seven rebounds and three steals and Ford snared five steals. Izzy McPherson chipped in 10 points, including a key three-pointer in the third quarter that helped keep Chattanooga within striking distance.

The Mocs opened the game strong, outscoring Lipscomb 16-9 in the first quarter, but the Bisons (1-2) responded with a 17-9 second to take a 26-25 lead into halftime. The teams traded baskets in the third, with Lipscomb holding a narrow 44-41 edge heading into the final 10 minutes.

Chattanooga's defense was relentless in the fourth, forcing key turnovers and limiting Lipscomb to just 12 points in the period.

The Mocs scored 10 points off turnovers with 11 steals. The game saw 10 lead changes and seven ties. UTC outscored Lipscomb 34-20 in the paint and picked up 10 points from the bench.

Chattanooga remains on the road with a Wednesday night matchup at Troy. The Mocs and Trojans met twice last season with Troy claiming both wins, the latter being in the second round of the WNIT.
