Softball Opens Home Play with Chattanooga Challenge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga softball Mocs host Lindenwood and North Alabama this weekend in the annual Chattanooga Challenge at Frost Stadium. The three-day event begins Friday and runs through Sunday and all games are set for Frost Stadium.

Tickets are on sale at the McKenzie Arena box office or online at GoMocs.com. A three-day pass is $25 dollars per person. Single-day tickets are $10. Season tickets are on sale for $50.

ABOUT CHATTANOOGA (2-3)
The Mocs opened play on the road last weekend at Stetson. After sweeping through the first day with an 8-0 run-rule win over Fairleigh Dickinson and edging Binghamton 4-3, the Mocs dropped the final three games with a loss to Binghamton and back-to-back losses to host Stetson. The Thursday game saw UTC score 10 runs behind three home runs off the bat of Acelynn Sellers while UTC gave up four runs in the bottom of the seventh Sunday, falling 5-4 to the Hatters.
 
Sellers was named the SoCon Player of the Week after hitting .533 (8-15) for the week with four home runs and eight RBI. Peja Goold threw a one-hitter against FDU in the opener and posted a 1.91 ERA for the week with two complete games and a 1-1 record. She struck out 17 in 14.2 innings pitched with four earned runs. Zoe Wright had a double and triple last week, hitting .467 (7-15), scoring four runs and driving in two.
 
ABOUT LINDENWOOD (2-2)
The Lions opened the season at the 901 Classic hosted by the University of Memphis. Lindenwood opened the season with a 2-1 win against Hampton before falling 8-2 to the host Tigers. After a 21-1 run-rule victory in five innings over NAIA's Rust College, the Lions dropped a 5-2 decision to Memphis.
 
 
Tori Hatten leads the Lions with a .333 batting average with a home run, four runs scored and two RBI. Madisen Noll is hitting .300 with a team-high four RBI. Avery Wapp has two starts with a 1-1 record and a 3.60 ERA. She has nine strikeouts in 10 innings pitched.
 
ABOUT NORTH ALABAMA (5-0)
The Lions started the season at the Alabama State Stinger Classic in Montgomery and recorded a five-game sweep. UNA opened the season with a 5-3 win over Nicholls and followed that with a close 1-0 victory over the host Hornets. Against Nicholls on Saturday, UNA scored in five of the seven innings including seven in the final for a 14-3 victory. It took eight innings to beat Alabama State a second time. The final game on Sunday went just five with the Lions coming away with a 12-0 run-rule victory.
 
Briley Dover went 10-for-18 over the weekend and leads the team with a .556 batting average with three home runs, a pair of triples, a double and drove in seven runs. Lillyanna Cartee hit .429 for the week with two triples and four RBIs. Emily Simon is 2-0 with three appearances and one start. She has a 0.00 ERA with one complete game and a save. She struck out 10 in 12 innings pitched and allowed four hits.
