JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga softball team picked up its eighth win of the season behind a pair of home runs, beating Jacksonville State 3-2 on the road Wednesday night.
Â
Jacksonville State scored first with a lead-off home run in the opening frame. The Gamecocks would get two more runners in the inning, but the Mocs stranded them on back-to-back outs to third. JSU added another run in the second, but it was all the scoring they would get.
Â
With one on and two out,
Presley Williamson put the Mocs on the board with a shot hard over the fence in left center to tie the game 2-2 in the fourth inning. She drove in
Olivia Lipari who walked to reach base.
Â
Chattanooga got out front in the top of the fifth on a lead-off home run from
Jayce Purdy to left. She took the first pitch out of the park and the Mocs went up 3-2.
Â
The Gamecocks left two on in the final two innings and
Peja Goold struck out three in the seventh to get her fourth win of the season. She had eight strikeouts in the game, one shy of her season-high.
Â
The Mocs hit the road for the Gardner-Webb Spring in the Springs Tournament beginning Friday against IU Indy.
