LAST TIME THEY MET
Chattanooga swept the Bulldogs in Birmingham last season. UTC took the first game 3-1 on multiple errors by Samford. The second game went nine innings in a come-from-behind victory for the Mocs. A two-run dinger pulled UTC to within a run and an inside-the-park home run in the seventh tied the game. The bottom of the seventh was a lesson in strategy. The Bulldogs' lead runner made it to third and with just one out, head coach
Frank Reed intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases. A liner to third and a dive for the bag resulted in an improbable double play to force extras. With two out and two on, a drive up the middle scored the runner from second for the go ahead run. Samford got the first runner on, but the Mocs got the final three outs for the win. Sunday's game went Chattanooga's way from the start and completed the sweep and an undefeated start to the SoCon season.
