Wrestlers Earn National Academic Plaudits

Ty Tice (pictured) and Jackson Hurst represent the Chattanooga Mocs wrestling program in the premier collegiate academic awards program.

First Look
Chattanooga Mocs wrestling was represented in the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District squads in 2025. Ty Tice (125) and Jackson Hurst (165) claimed spots in the At Large program which covers a large variety of sports in NCAA competition. The award requires a 3.5 cumulative grade point average and each nominee must have completed at least three semesters of academic work while also competing as a starter or major contributor to team competitions.
 
The Breakdown
  • Hurst is a 2-time NWCA Scholar All-American (2024, 2025). Tice also claimed the honor this year.
  • The junior graduated this year and is headed to medical school forgoing his final year of eligibility at Chattanooga.
  • He placed sixth at the Southern Scuffle and fourth at the Southern Conference Championships.
  • Hurst started every dual at 165 and ended the campaign at 12-19 overall against a stellar schedule evidenced by his two placings.
  • Tice also started every dual.
  • He has an impressive scoring record averaging a tech fall per dual win (5.2 pts/match).
  • Tice is an Exercise Science major.
  • They're the fifth and sixth Mocs to earn this award:
    2011: Jason McCroskey
    2016: John Lampe, Jared Johnson
    2019: Jake Huffine
