Ekern Named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week

Caroline earned her second SoCon Player of the Week nod in three weeks.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- Chattanooga keeper Caroline Ekern was named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week for all games played August 26 – September 1, the league office announced Tuesday.

Ekern has played every minute in goal for the Mocs this season and earned her third shutout of the year with a 1-0 win at Austin Peay last week. She tallied two saves, keeping the Govs out of the net.

The win was Ekern's 17th career clean sheet, giving her sole possession of first place on the Mocs all-time list. She passed Ashton Shields ('23) and is three games behind Stacey Matthiessen ('07) for the top spot on the career list for wins with 27.

The Knoxville, Tenn., native is tied for first in the SoCon for wins with four and shutouts with three, third in the league with a 0.80 goals-against average and third with a .789 saves percentage.

The Mocs remain on the road to take on Tennessee Tech in the final non-conference matchup between the two programs on Thursday, Sept. 4 in Cookeville. The Golden Eagles join the SoCon beginning next season. Chattanooga comes home to host North Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 7 at Finley Stadium.
