5 Mocs Earn Football Academic Honors

Grant Reid

Grant Reid is one of five Chattanooga Mocs earning top national academic honors.

Overview
The Chattanooga Mocs football program placed five on the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. Senior Ryan Merklinger, Grant Reid and Camden Orth were joined by sophomores Devin Lively and Nick Paul.

CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA, has long trumpeted the academic prowess of student-athletes across all sports. The minimum requirement is a 3.5 GPA while holding a starting role or key reserve and playing the majority of the season.

Breakdown
  • It's the sixth straight year the Mocs have five or more on the squad. The team never had more than two in a season prior to Coach Rusty Wright's arrival.
  • Lively shared center duties with senior BJ Ragland while taking a majority of the opening snaps as the year moved on. The Lebanon, Tenn., native is an Exercise Science major.
  • Merklinger started at right tackle after grad transferring from Western Illinois. He earned a 4.0 in his MBA work in the fall.
  • Orth took over signal calling duties this past fall and impressed with his grit and toughness. In the classroom, he completed his degree in Applied Leadership.
  • Reid is another December grad with a degree in Communications. He handled all long snapping duties on special teams in 2025.
  • Paul emerged at guard as a regular starter in 2025. He also registered a 4.0 majoring in Psychology.
