Evan Rogers led the Chattanooga Mocs over the opening 18 holes of the Trinity Forest Invitational.
The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is tied for fifth after a 2-under 286 to open play at the Trinity Forest Invitational in Dallas, Texas. The Mocs showed a significant amount of grit after a tough mid-round stretch.
Chattanooga was matched by Baylor at 286, just a shot behind Rice in fourth and a stroke ahead of South Alabama and San Diego in seventh.
The Mocs got off to a solid start with a 4 under tally through five. Holes 6-8 provided a stern test requiring the squad to come up with some extra credit on the back nine.
The counting cards played the 3-hole stretch at 7 over making the turn at 3 over. The par 5 10th was played at 2 under but the par three 11th took three back to put the group at 4 over for the day.
Chattanooga kept that total through 13 before torching holes 14-17 with eight birdies to flip the script. A 2 over finish on the long, 505-yard par 4 18th could not diminish the 5 under work on the back side.
