JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team fell 8-0 in five innings Wednesday evening to Jacksonville State at Jana McGinnis Field. The Mocs move to 5–5 on the season following the midweek matchup.
Jacksonville State struck early with single runs in the first and second before breaking the game open with a four‑run third inning. The Gamecocks added two more in the fifth to secure the win.
UTC posted four hits on the night, highlighted by a strong performance from catcher
Mia Leone, who went 2-for-2 with a double.
Chloe Lackey also added a hit with a single to right in the fourth, and
Zoe Wright contributed a third-inning base hit.
The Mocs threatened in both the first and fourth innings, putting runners in scoring position, but a pair of outfield assists at home plate ended each opportunity.
Jacksonville State's Madi Portillo earned the complete-game shutout, holding the Mocs to four hits with three strikeouts.
Chattanooga returns to action this weekend with the annual Frost Classic. The Mocs host UIC and Cornell in the three-day event. Tickets are on sale at the McKenzie Arena box office and online at GoMocs.com. Tournament and single game tickets may be purchased at the Frost Stadium ticket booth.
