Sandy Mocs Split Saturday Doubleheader in Columbia

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Chattanooga split a pair of matches in the final day of the Wheeler Beach Bash, falling to South Carolina 0-5, before responding with a 5-0 win over Austin Peay. With the Saturday results, the Sandy Mocs finished the opening weekend 1-3.

The Gamecocks earned their first point of the match in the No. 4 slot, as Taylor Clark and Ashli McKenny were defeated by Juju Quintero and Annalyse Askew 14-21, 14-21. On Court 2, the duo of Corina Vale and Julia Lawrence came up just short in the second set, as they lost 12-21, 21-23 to Evie Ziffer and Julia Waugh. 

USC clinched the match with a win at the No. 5 position as Amelia Taft and Morgan Downs took down Ava Goryl and Madeline McCabe 21-13, 21-12 in straight sets. Maddie Lecik and McKenna Faychak represented UTC on Court 1, falling to Brooke Balue and Rachel Hartmann 13-21, 15-21.

Sydney Jackwin and Ansley Gulledge sent their match in the No. 3 slot to three sets, but were defeated in a hard-fought match by Jolie Cranford and Peyton Yamagata 16-21, 21-16, 10-15.

Chattanooga drops to 0-2 all-time against South Carolina.

Chattanooga vs. Austin Peay - W, 5-0
Vale and Lawrence got things started with a 21-13, 21-17 win on Court 2 against Alyson Cooper and Jordyn Beneteau for their first wins of the 2026 season. In the No. 4 slot, Clark and McKenny took care of business, taking down Aubreigh Oswald and Addi Hultquist 21-19, 21-13.

Goryl and McCabe secured the match-winning point with a dominant 21-6, 21-6 victory over Cami Missis and Sage Raby in the No. 5 position. It marked their first win of the season.

Jackwin and McKenny wrapped up their weekend in the No. 3-ranked match with a 21-17, 21-19 win over Bailey Hope and Ashley Boswell. Faychak and Lecik closed out the sweep with an exciting three-set win over Isabella Russell and Grace Austin 18-21, 21-16, 15-13.

Chattanooga moves to 9-5 all-time against Austin Peay and has won six in a row in the series.
