TROY, Ala. --- The Chattanooga softball Mocs opened the 2026 season Friday with a pair of games at the Troy Softball Complex, falling 12-4 to North Alabama in the opener before dropping an 8-0 decision to host Troy in the nightcap of the 2026 Trojan Classic hosted by Troy.
Across the day, the Mocs totaled four runs on eight hits, with
Abi Bunt providing the biggest swing — a two-run home run in game one.
GAME ONE: North Alabama 12, Chattanooga 4 / 5 innings
Chattanooga showed flashes of resilience and power Friday afternoon, but an early surge by North Alabama proved too much to overcome as the Mocs dropped a 12–4 decision in five innings in their opening game.
North Alabama struck first plating nine runs in the opening inning to seize early control. The Mocs settled in after the rocky start, tightening defensively and beginning to chip away as the game unfolded.
UTC found it's offensive rhythm in the third inning. After a pair of North Alabama miscues opened the door,
Abi Bunt delivered the game's defining swing for Chattanooga, launching a two-run home run to deep left field. The blast ignited the Mocs' dugout and cut into the deficit with a three-run third.
In the fourth, the Mocs continued to apply pressure with another run to make it a 9-4 lead for the Lions.
In the circle,
Emery Bales provided stability in relief, working 3.1 innings and limiting damage while giving Chattanooga a chance to rally. The freshman struck out one and forced North Alabama into several ground-ball outs as the Mocs tried to claw back.
North Alabama added three more runs to get the 12-4 win in five innings. Chattanooga finished with seven hits in the game, highlighted by Bunt's homer and seven singles.
GAME TWO: Troy 8, Chattanooga 0
The Mocs dropped an 8–0 decision to host Troy on Friday evening at the Troy Softball Complex in UTC's second game of the Trojan Classic.
Chattanooga was limited to one hit on the night, a first-inning single by
Annika Segedi, while Troy capitalized on early scoring opportunities to pull away.
The Mocs threatened in the opening frame when Segedi singled and
Baileigh Pitts worked a walk, but Troy's defense turned a double play to escape the inning unscathed.
Troy struck in the bottom of the first and continued to add runs in each of the next three innings. The Trojans plated one run in the opening inning, two in the second, one in the third and four more in the fourth to secure the five-inning win.
Taylor Long got the start in the circle for Chattanooga, going four innings and striking out three. The senior battled through traffic throughout her outing, with Troy scoring eight runs on nine hits.
