MARTIN, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Beach Volleyball team won its OVC opener on Wednesday evening at UT Martin, 3-2. It was a rematch of last year's OVC Title Match, giving the Sandy Mocs the upper hand over the Skyhawks in the early stages of the conference season.

UT Martin: 3-2, 0-1 OVC

Earning the first point of the day for Chattanooga was Taylor Clark and Ashli McKenny in the No. 4 position. The duo moved to 8-1 on the year with a 21-17 and 21-18 result over Amara Traiger and Andie Kryak. 

UTC moved ahead 2-0 after Ava Goryl and Madeline McCabe pulled out a gutsy three-set win in the No. 5 slot over Kristin Phillips and MC Rehm, 21-12, 14-21, 15-6. 

Chattanooga earned the team win as Julia Lawrence and Corina Vale took down Kayla Bryant and Reagan McGee 21-13, 22-20 on Court 2. 

McKenna Faychak and Maddie Lecik in the No. 1 slot, and Ansley Gulledge and Sydney Jackwin, in the No. 3 position, each suffered close three-set defeats. However, the team's result was already decided in UTC's favor.

"It's always a battle with Martin. It's a great rivalry in our conference," said Head Coach Darin Van Horn. "Even after the dual was clinched, they didn't back down. You never know where you are going to get your points playing UTM. Each pair had a chance to win, though, and it is a good start to the conference season."
