Upcoming Milestones
Chattanooga is one win away from tying the program's all-time record for most consecutive wins at 11 matches. If UTC defeats both Ottawa and Liberty, it will set a new school record of most consecutive wins at 12 and counting. Additionally, Chattanooga Head Coach,
Darin Van Horn, is one win away from 100 for his career. He holds a 99-62 all-time record in six years as the only Head Coach in program history.Â
Scouting Chattanooga
The Sandy Mocs sit at 10-3 and 5-0 in OVC play, alone at the top of the conference standings. In its last competition, which was the OVC Weekend at UTC, the Sandy Mocs dominated their opponents, outscoring them 19-1 across four matches. Eight of UTC's 10 wins this year are by a sweeping score of 5-0. All of Chattanooga's starting pairs have at least 10 wins, led by
Ashli McKenny and
Taylor Clark at the No. 4 slot, who are 12-1. The Sandy Mocs' No. 1 pair of
Maddie Lecik and
McKenna Faychak were just named OVC Pair of the Week.Â
Scouting Ottawa (Kan.)
Ottawa is an NAIA program in Kansas, who currently holds an 0-16 record. The Mocs will be just the second NCAA Division I team that the Braves have faced this year. Ottawa took on Nebraska in its season opener in Lincoln, where it fell 0-5. The duo of Hollie Peters and Carson Schuman run the No. 1 slot for the Braves. When Ottawa and UTC face off on Friday, it will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.Â
Scouting Liberty
Liberty does not sponsor Beach Volleyball as an NCAA-sanctioned sport, so the Sandy Mocs will take on Liberty's club team. Despite just being a club team, Liberty has traveled to multiple tournaments, including one in Cincinatti, and at Carson Newman and Wingate. So far this season, the Flames have defeated schools in NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III. They are led by Anna Moody and Jo Malone at the No. 1 position and Cambre Phillips and Jesse Matthews at the No. 2 slot. Chattanooga and Liberty's club team have met once before in 2023 at the UTC Sport Complex, with the Sandy Mocs taking home a 5-0 win.Â
Scouting Eastern Kentucky
The Colonels are the host school and sit at 12-7 on the year. EKU is coming off a 3-1 weekend a the Shoals Beach Bash in Florence, Alabama, where it defeated Tusculum, Austin Peay, and Spring Hill. This season, the Colonels have squared off against three OVC teams, having defeated Morehead State and Tennessee Tech, while falling to Lindenwood. EKU's two most successful pairs this season are Riley Cutler and Molly Shomock who are 12-7, and Gabriella Armitage and Elpida Pitsigkoni, who hold an 11-8 record. Both of these pairs have split time in the No. 1 and No. 2 slots. Chattanooga and EKU have met five times before, with the Sandy Mocs holding a 3-2 record in the series. The Colonels have won the last two matches they have played against UTC in 2023 and 2024 in Chattanooga.Â
