Softball Hosts Mercer Friday, Saturday on Youth Day

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga softball team hosts Southern Conference foe Mercer Friday and Saturday in a three-game series. The games are moved up a day due to Easter Sunday. A double header will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday's game will .
 
start at 1:00 p.m. as well.

The Mocs hold a one-game edge in the series, 33-32, however, the Bears lead 11-19 since joining the Southern Conference. In Chattanooga, UTC leads the series 16-10.
 
ABOUT CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs are 13-20-1 and 1-5 in Southern Conference action. In their last outing, they mounted a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Georgia State to win on a walk-off in extra innings.
 
The team is batting .294 with 39 doubles, six triples, 13 home runs and 136 RBI. Ava Cowart leads the team with a .369 batting average and is 8-for-9 in steals. Baileigh Pitts is hitting .356 with three home runs, eight doubles and a triple along with 20 RBI, .545 slugging percentage, four sac flies and three sac hits. Mia Leone has a team-best four home runs, including the game-tying two-run shot against Georgia State.
 
In the circle, UTC has a 5.34 ERA. Taylor Long has 103 strikeouts in 82.1 innings pitched and a SoCon-best 8.8 strikeouts per seven innings. Emery Bales picked up her fifth win of the season on Tuesday against the Panthers.
 
ABOUT MERCER
 
The Bears are 15-18 on the year and 3-3 in conference play. Mercer picked up its second weekend series win of the season, while also evening up its Southern Conference record, with victories in the last two contests with visiting Wofford last weekend at home. While Mercer has hit a milestone with 15 home victories, the most in a single season, it has struggled to find a win on the road. As a team, the Bears are hitting .267 with 38 home runs, 30 doubles and two triples with 128 RBI. Olivia Lenzen leads the team with a .405 batting average with six home runs, 17 RBI and five doubles. Avery Barton leads Mercer with 11 home runs and 24 RBI. Grace Jones is second on the team with a .330 batting average and Daniella Monaco is third at .320.
