RECAP: Men’s Golf Extends Lead at SoCon Championships

Evan Rogers

Evan Rogers led the Chattanooga Mocs on day two of the Southern Conference Championships as the Mocs extended their lead.

Overview
The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team extended their Southern Conference Championships to 11 shots through 36 holes at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, S.C. The Mocs shot 290 sharing the low round of the day with Mercer and UNCG on a cool and rainy round.

Two Mocs are in the top five individually with Evan Rogers in second at 4 under and Camden Braidech two behind him in fifth. Mercer's Nathan Trodd is the leader at 5 under. Chattanooga (-3) is 11 clear of Furman (+8) in second with Western Carolina (+9), Mercer (+10) and UNCG (+11) rounding out the top 5.

Quotable
"It was good. The pins were definitely more difficult than yesterday. I hit the ball way better and kept it clean for the most part. Lag putting was pretty essential today. The speed was good, and I was just good inside of five feet with the putter. I think that kind of held it together." – Rogers on his day

Breakdown
  • It was tough going at the start for the field in general. The Mocs littered four birdies over the front nine but made the turn at 7 over.
  • Once again, they used a strong back nine to create separation. The Mocs and Catamounts were tied a 1 under early in the back nine when the good guys played 6 under on the par 4 14th (-1) and par 5 15th (-5).
  • The Mocs have held 36-hole lead once this season. That was 18 holes ahead of the win at the Racer Intercollegiate.
  • Rogers is tied for the tourney lead in par 3 scoring at 2 under (2.8), while Braidech leads on par 4s at 1 under (3.94).
  • Law's eagle at 15 today made him one of 11 in the field with an eagle this week. That list includes Braidech after his at 11 on Monday.
  • Whitaker is tied with Western Carolina's Tyler Jones for most birdies with 11.
  • Harris is 6 over on the front side this week and 4 under on the back.
  • Wednesday's final round is being pushed back to 10:30 a.m., due to inclement weather expected in the early morning. Law will lead the Mocs off at 11:20 a.m., off of No. 1 paired with Furman.
