The Chattanooga Mocs open the football season tonight at West Georgia. It is one of the highlight games on the day across the country which leads us to more nationally significant news. Vice Chancellor for Athletics Mark Wharton is taking on another leadership role in the Football Championships Subdivision.

After several years of service on the FCS Playoff Selection Committee including chairmanship, Wharton is joining the leadership team with the FCS Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA). He was recently appointed third vice president of the group joining President Kurt McGuffin (UT Martin) and fellow VPs, Skip Perkins (N.C. Central) and Bill Chaves (North Dakota).
 
Wharton was also recognized by AD Vantage over the summer. It listed the top 25 athletic directors by improved department win percentage over the last three years. Wharton ranked No. 6 in the country across all of DI athletics.
 
New Hires
The Mocs have added a lot of new talent to the department over the last few weeks. Among the group is the new coordinator of events and operations for the Mocs Club, Kim Wasden. She joins from handling presidential events at Middle Georgia State.
 
Athletics performance adds two to the mix at the Wolford Family Strength & Conditioning Center. Both hires are working with the basketball programs as well as other assigned sports. Harry Warner is with the women's program, while Tyler Harris was added to the men's staff.
 
The Alling Family Student-Athlete Academic Center also added new talent. Kylie Bombalski, a Pittsburgh-area native, is the new academic advisor and tutor coordinator.
