TUSCALOOSA, Ala. --- Seniors Peter Sauska and Pavil Vostrikov won their first round doubles match at the Crimson Tide Fall Men's Tennis Championships to advance to the Sunday morning quarterfinals in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

 

Sauska and Vostrikov fell in their first match and Friday and met up with Jacksonville State's Vinny Craveiro and Francisco Riveroll in the Round of 16 and posted an 8-4 win to advance to the quarterfinals.

 

In other consolation matches, the Mocs did not fare so well. Tyler Pullen and Chase Price fell to Jacksonville State's duo of Chris Duke and Bryan Kenyon by an 8-2 margin while Alex Butnarcuic and Rick van de Bovenkamp lost 8-3 to Thomas Bellman and Steffen Solomon of Jacksonville State.

 

In singles action, the Mocs failed to advance to Sunday action. Sauska fell to Alabama's Billy Mertz 7-5, 6-3 in the Bear Bryant Consolation Round of 16. Vostrikov advanced through the Round of 16 in the John Hannah Consolation  when Vanderbilt's Vijay Paul withdrew due to injury. However, he would fall to Jacksonville State's Scott Robertson.

 

In the first set, Robertson won by a 6-2 margin, but Vostrikov forced a tie-break but fell 7-6(5) in the second set.

 

In the Bart Starr singles bracket, Pullen fell to Jacksonville State's Bellman 6-1, 6-1. He would advance through the quarterfinals when he was paired with UAB's John Hollimon for the second time this tournament. Hollimon withdrew due to illness. Pullen's luck would run out with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to Spencer Heflin of Memphis.

 

Bovenkamp was eliminated from the Gene Stallings Consolation Round of 16 with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Kelwin Dewet of Samford.

 

In the finals singles bracket for the Mocs, Chase Price advanced to the quarterfinals of the Ken Stabler Consolations after receiving a bye in the Round of 16, but fell to Zachary Pine of Virginia Tech, 6-0, 6-1

 

Alex Butnarcuic won his first set 6-1 over Samford's Michael Browder before falling 6-4 in the second. Browder claimed a 1-0 tie-break win to advance.

 

Sauska and Vostrikov will take on Bastian Maucher and Mario Silva of Troy Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
