The Southern Conference Sports Media Association released its SoCon Football All-Conference Teams and Specialty Awards for the 2011 season today. Chattanooga's Terrell Robinson earned the Freshman of the Year Award, while six Mocs were on the all-league squads.
Robinson was named the league's Freshman of the Year after teammate Kadeem Wise was honored with the same award in 2010. The freshman signal caller went 2-1 as the Mocs' starting quarterback in relief of senior B.J. Coleman. Robinson earned the league's Freshman of the Week award three straight times in October. He completed 27 of 43 passes for 336 yards and six touchdowns. A dual threat for UTC, Robinson also carried 90 times for 417 yards and 5 TDs.
There were a few surprises on the all-conference teams, most notably the lack of Mocs among the first-team linebackers. After garnering first team honors from the coaches yesterday, neither sophomore Wes Dothard (Carrollton, Ga.) nor senior Ryan Consiglio (Franklin, Tenn.) made the first team.
Chattanooga led the SoCon in nearly every defensive category, yet only one made the top squad on defense. Consiglio led the league with 120 tackles while Dothard had two scores, was third in the league in TFLs (15.5) and fourth in the nation with five forced fumbles. Both made the second team defense along with defensive backs senior Chris Lewis-Harris (Smyrna, Ga.) and sophomore D.J. Key (Centerville, Tenn.).
Junior Joshua Williams (Griffin, Ga.) was the lone first team pick for the Mocs. The defensive lineman led the league in sacks with 9.5 to grab his second career All-SoCon honor. He is UTC's career leader in sacks with 21.5.
Senior Joel Bradford (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was the lone UTC representative on the offense. He was a second-team pick at receiver after leading the Mocs with 660 yards on 53 catches and five touchdowns.
Between the coaches all-conference and all-freshmen teams release yesterday and the media's squads today, Chattanooga had 14 members of its football team honored for their play in 2011.
