BOONE, N.C. ? The Chattanooga volleyball team continued its hot play Saturday as the Lady Mocs beat Appalachian State 3-1 and extended its winning streak to three. Chattanooga took the match 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, and 25-16.

It is the second time Chattanooga (16-13, 11-4 Southern) has beaten the Mountaineers (6-23, 2-13) this season and the first time since the 2003 season that the Lady Mocs have swept the season series from ASU.

Jessica Scott led UTC in the victory with 12 kills in the contest. The freshman also posted a match-high .407 hitting percentage on the evening.

Courtney Barnes finished with nine kills, while Laura Nethery ended with six.

Setter Michaela Huff continued her strong play at the net for the Lady Mocs and finished with a team-leading 33 assists. On defense, Lara Newberry led all players with 36 digs.

Also in the match, the Lady Mocs accounted for 12 blocks in the match, setting a new season-high.

Appalachian State was paced by Maja Jechorek with a match-high 14 kills. Charissa Clearman led the all players with 36 assists, and Heather Kale had a team-high 16 digs

In the first set, the Lady Mocs were able to jump out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a 25-22 win. Chattanooga would then jump out to a commanding 2-0 advantage after taking the second set 25-21.

After the break, the Mountaineers would stave off defeat by taking the third set 25-22, but were able to complete the comeback as the Lady Mocs ended the match with a 25-16 victory in the fourth set.

In that final set, UTC capitalized on a quick 6-0 lead to jump ahead of ASU and never trailed in the frame.

The Lady Mocs will return to the court on Sunday as the team wraps up the weekend against Western Carolina. First serve is set for 2 p.m. from Cullowhee, N.C.
