Tenn. --- Lindsey Ballard
remained undefeated in five dual single matches this season, but the
Middle Tennessee women's tennis team got the better of the Lady Mocs
Tuesday night in a 6-1 victory.
Ballard,
a senior from Lilburn, Ga., took Middle Tennessee's top player, A.K.
Siljestrom, to three sets and pulled out a 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 victory at
No. 1 singles for Chattanooga's lone team point. The win was
Ballard's 50th
career singles victory in dual matches. She earned an 18-8 record in
2007, playing No. 2 singles behind NCAA Qualifier Anastasia Zhukova.
“Lindsey
is really playing well right now, and Beata (Knizat) turned in a
solid effort as well,” Head Coach Jeff Clark said. “Middle
Tennessee had a talented lineup where there wasn't much difference
from the No. 1 player to the No. 6 player.”
The
Blue Raiders, now 3-6, swept all three doubles matches for the
doubles point.
Andrea
Herrera's win over sophomore Kate Ksiezopolski at No. 6 singles gave
the Blue Raiders their fourth point and sealed the victory for Middle
Tennessee.
The
Lady Mocs, 3-2, also received a valiant effort from junior Beata
Knizat at No. 2 singles. Knizat stretched her singles match with
Stephanie Parkison to three sets, claiming the first, 6-3. Parkison
rebounded to take the last two, 6-4, 6-2.
Also
competing for Chattanooga were senior Bonnie Adams at No. 3 singles
and freshmen Annie Green and Arianna Sanjines at the four and five
positions respectively. Freshman regular Grace Robinette was
unavailable because of an injury.
The
Lady Mocs return to action Saturday, hosting North Alabama at 1 p.m.
at the Hixson Racquet Club.
