Women's Tennis Falls at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. --- The women's tennis team lost its first match of the season Sunday, 6-1 to Eastern Kentucky.

 

The Colonels claimed the doubles point and won five of six singles matches.

 

Chattanooga senior Lindsey Ballard earned the Lady Mocs' lone team point.  Ballard, the No. 1 singles player, defeated Svetlana Pimenova 6-1, 6-0.

 

The Lady Mocs also won the No. 2 doubles match, although losing the doubles point to the Colonels.  Ballard and freshman teammate Grace Robinette edged Jemma Euers and Vera Heimeroth, 8-7 and 7-5 in the tiebreak.

 

Eastern Kentucky has a lot of depth and were very strong,” UTC Head Coach Jeff Clark said.  “I am disappointed in the loss, but we surely came up with something to build on.”

 

EKU improved to 3-1 on the year and claimed singles wins at No. 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

 

Competing for Chattanooga at singles were Beata Knizat at No. 2, Bonnie Adams at No. 3, Grace Robinette at No. 4, Annie Green at No. 5 and Arianna Sanjines at No. 6.

 

The Lady Mocs host Belmont Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Champion's Club.
