Box Score The Furman women's tennis team displayed its new national collegiate ranking Thursday with a 7-0 Southern Conference victory over Chattanooga.
The 68th-ranked Paladins swept the doubles matches and allowed the Lady Mocs only five games in singles play, taking all six in straight sets.
Laura Gioia, last year's Southern Conference Co-Player of the Year with Chattanooga's Anastasia Zhukova, defeated the Lady Mocs' No. 1 singles player, Lindsey Ballard, 6-0, 6-0. Gioia broke into the ITA national rankings last week at No. 84.
Monica Arguello, Lauren Tomory and Natasa Manojlivic followed suit with 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles respectively.
Lauren Osborne was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Chattanooga freshman Grace Robniette at No. 3, and Jessica Preeg scored a 6-2, 6-0 win over junior Beata Knizat at No. 4.
The Lady Mocs return to the court Saturday, taking on Kennesaw State in Atlanta, Ga., at 1 p.m.
