Ga. --- The Georgia Southern women's tennis team swept the doubles
matches and won four of six singles meetings Saturday to notch a 5-2
Southern Conference victory over Chattanooga.
The
Eagles, 10-10 and 3-6 in the SoCon, claimed all three doubles
matches, including a narrow 8-7(4) win at the No. 2 spot, to earn the
early 1-0 lead.
Chattanooga
junior Beata Knizat and freshman Annie Green produced the Lady Mocs'
two team points. Knizat registered a 6-4, 6-3 win over Molly Maddox
at No. 4 singles, and Green, a Georgia native, defeated Jessica
Fuller at the No. 5 position, 6-2, 6-4.
Singles
winners for the Eagles included Kristi Kegerreis at No. 1, Melanie
Rolle at No. 2, Ali Beavers at No. 3 and Kelli Helms at No. 6.
Also
competing for Chattanooga (8-11, 2-7) were seniors Lindsey Ballard
and Bonnie Adams at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively and freshmen
Grace Robinette and Arianna Sanjines at No. 2 and No. 6. Sophomore
Kate Ksiezopolski teamed with Green at No. 3 doubles.
The
match marked the final regular-season competition for the Lady Mocs,
and they will head to Charleston, S.C., this coming week for the
SoCon Championships, Thursday through Sunday.
