Box Score CHARLESTON,
S.C. --- The Chattanooga senior duo of Lindsey Ballard and Bonnie
Adams went out winners Thursday as each won their respective singles
matches in the opening round of the 2008 Southern Conference Tennis
Championships.
It
wasn't enough, however, as ninth-seeded Appalachian State eliminted
the eighth-seeded Lady Mocs, 4-2 at the Earle Tennis Center on the
campus of The Citadel.
The
Mountaineers won the doubles point by claiming two tight doubles
matches at the second and third positions.
Ballard
tied the team score at 1-1 with the first singles win of the day, a
6-1, 7-5 decision over Anja Gugger at the top spot.
After
two ASU wins at No. 2 and No. 6, Adams trimmed the deficit to 3-2 by
defeating Heather Prior at No. 3, 6-4, 6-7, 6-1.
Amanda
Cash clinched the Mountaineers' win at the fourth spot, edging junior
Beata Knizat in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Freshman
Annie Green was tied 6-3, 4-6, 6-6 in the third set of her match at
No. 5 with Elizabeth Holland when the match was clinched with the
fourth team point.
Chattanooga
finishes the season with an 8-12 record.
