Box Score The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team won its second straight home match with a 6-1 win over Lipscomb today. Colder weather in Chattanooga moved the match to the indoor courts at the Manker Patten Tennis Club on the banks of the Tennessee River, but the Lady Mocs were still able to improve to 2-3 on the year. Lipscomb's record evens at 4-4 in spring action.
UTC opened the afternoon by winning the doubles point in exciting fashion. Junior Grace Robinette and sophomore Shaina Singh began the day with an 8-2 win at No. 2 over Lipscomb's Danielle Hanson and Kara Jackson. Lady Bison Mackenzie Bishop and Elizabeth Keevil posted an 8-4 win over UTC's No. 1 duo of freshman Jenna Nurik and sophomore Emily Hangstefer.
The doubles point came down to the No. 3 match between UTC senior Beata Knizat and sophomore Charlotte Bossy and Lipscomb's Carlina Jow and Julianne McMeen. Knizat and Bossy took a 6-4 lead in the match, but Jow and McMeen battled back to tie the score at 8-8. The Lady Mocs finally took the doubles point with a 7-2 win in the tiebreaker.
Chattanooga quickly ran off three-straight wins to put the outcome of the dual meet to rest early in the day. Singh gave UTC a 2-0 lead with her 6-1, 6-0, dismantling of Hanson at No. 3 for her team-high 10th win of the year. Hangstefer followed that up with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Keevil at No. 2 while Robinette helped UTC grab a 4-0 lead and clinch the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jow at No. 5.
Nurik (No. 1) and freshman Jennifer Taylor (No. 6) also posted straight-set wins today. The Lady Mocs are back in action on Sunday, Feb. 28 when they open Southern Conference play against the College of Charleston. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the UTC Tennis Courts.
