Box Score The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to the College of Charleston in its Southern Conference opener at the UTC Tennis Courts this afternoon. The Lady Mocs fall to 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in SoCon action while the Cougars improve to 5-4 and 2-0 in the SoCon.
Charleston swept the doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. They continued their run with wins in the first five matches. Freshman Jenna Nurik helped UTC avoid the shutout with a solid win in the No. 1 match. She defeated Emma Hayman, 7-5, 7-5, for Chattanooga's lone point of the day. It was Nurik's second-straight win as she improves to 10-4 on the year and 3-3 in dual match action.
The Lady Mocs hit the road for a three-match swing that begins next week at Jacksonville State. UTC faces the Gamecocks in a doubleheader with the men's teams on Wednesday, March 3 at 2:30 p.m. (E.S.T.). The Lady Mocs will be back at home on Sunday, March 14 at 1:00 p.m. when they host Appalachian State on the UTC Tennis Courts.
