Postmatch Quotes
No. 19 Tennessee 3, Chattanooga 0; Xavier 3, Chattanooga 0
Thompson-Boling Arena
Knoxville, Tenn.
Head Coach Lisa Rhodes
On the first set against No. 19 Tennessee:
“They played their starters and came out flat. I think we surprised
and just could not finish it, but we did hang with the No. 19 team in the
nation.”
On the Xavier match:
“Xavier was probbrably the toughest serving team that we have
seen thus far and we just had a really tough time controlling the pass off
their serve. We did not get into any kind of offense at all. I am proud of the
third set because we hung in there, fought and did not give up. It was a nice
way to leave the tournament.”
Looking back on the tournament:
“I knew that it was going to be a tough tournament, but it
was a great experience. I think we had a chance to win a set in each match. It
would have been nice to have pulled one out. We will take back what we learned
and try to fix things and get better. All of this is preparation for conference
play.”
On heading to the Jayhawk Classic:
“It is going to be another tough tournament. There is
another SEC team in Arkansas, Akron always has a strong team and Kansas. We are
going to see big girls again. Hopefully, it will be a good bonding and team
experience for us. Also, Jessica [Scott] has a chance to go home and play in
front of friends and family.”
Freshman libero Paula Passmore
On what was learned during the tournament:
“The competition allows us for the chance to learn more. It
is not only helpful for me, but the entire team because we are up against a
bigger challenge. It makes us come together more. Of course, I enjoy doing the
digs. I will step in and take them no matter what. It was a learning lesson and
a good challenge.”
On the team coming together during the first set against
Tennessee:
“It definitely brought us together. We wanted to win and
prove ourselves. It gave us chance to prove who we and how Chattanooga plays.”
Senior Setter Bailee Chastain
On competing in the tournament:
“That is what we work for since middle school to play in
tournaments like this. I think we looked good and we stuck with them for the
most part. We had our moments and other times we were kind of shaky. A lot of
stuff we did this weekend is looking really good for SoCon opponents. I think
we are really going to be fighting for a lot of games this year.”
On the what to take from the weekend:
“I think we did have short spurts where everything was
working. For us, it is more about the little things that we did and mistakes
that were our fault and unforced errors. The good stuff that we do is something
that is going to come naturally over the progression of the season. We just need
to clean up the little things that give us a lot errors.
“These tournaments are about playing smart and learning to
play with your teammates and their tendencies.”
On rebounding against Xavier:
“I think the first two sets were the worst two of the whole
weekend. We were all frustrated, but it came out in a good way to where we really
just wanted to compete with them. We could have taken a set off of them or even
the whole match.
“We were frantic during the first two sets and the
intermission allowed us to cool off and take a break”
