STARKVILLE, Miss. – Members of the University of Tennessee
at Chattanooga softball team, Brooke Loudermilk (Locust Grove, Ga.), Kandice
Irwin (Knoxville, Tenn.), Kristin Holloway (Chickamauga, Ga.), Lyndsey Stiles
(Hixson, Tenn.), Michelle Fuzzard (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Tiffany Baker
(East Ridge, Tenn.), received National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA)
Scholar Athlete recognition on Thursday.
The six honored student-athletes achieved at least a 3.50
GPA during the 2009-10 academic year proving their academic commitment on and
off the field.
Fellow Southern Conference members, College of Charleston,
Elon, Georgia Southern, and UNC Greensboro, had players garner the same
recognition. The NFCA recognizes softball teams from across the country that
compete at the NCAA, NAIA, Junior College and high school levels.
Last season, Chattanooga posted a 39-19 overall record and
19-5 SoCon mark, the best in conference history, on its way to clinching its 12th
regular season title. The team celebrates the championship with a ring ceremony
and unveiling of the banner on Oct. 16 apart of its Blue-Gold game at 11 a.m.
The Lady Mocs begin their fall schedule on Friday against
Lee University at 5 p.m. at Frost Stadium. Chattanooga also hosts Motlow State
for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at Noon.
