STATESBORO, Ga. - The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball was swept,
3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-19), on Sunday afternoon at Georgia Southern. Freshman
libero Melissa Green (Boca Raton, Fla.) totaled a match-high 22 digs for
the Mocs at Hanner Fieldhouse.
The offense was paced by sophomore outside Jennifer Kuroski
(Acworth, Ga.) with a match-high tying 10 kills, while junior middle blocker
Christina Teter (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) contributed four along with three
kills from junior outside Heather Parman (Ooltewah, Tenn.).
Running the offense was sophomore setter Bridget Camacho
(Cumming, Ga.), who registered 16 assists.
Chattanooga totaled 41 digs in the match as Parman added
seven digs, while Kuroski and Camacho each recorded four.
Georgia Southern was led by Nicole Jeschelnik with 10 kills
and 10 digs. Adding to the 36 kills by the Eagles was Jamie DeRatt and Parker
Small with eight and seven, respectively. Match-highs were posted by Kate Van
Dyke with 29 assists and Moriah Belissimo with 14 digs.
There were eight ties and five lead changes with most of
them occurring in the competitive fourth set.
The first set started with Georgia Southern taking a 3-1
lead, but the Mocs were able to knot it up at three on a kill by Kuroski before
the Eagles stretched their advantage to 10-4. Chattanooga fought back to within
four at 14-10, but Georgia Southern used a 11-3 run to finish off the set,
25-13.
Chattanooga took a 2-1 lead in the second set on a kill by
Teter, but Georgia Southern used a rally to push it to 14-7 and did not look
back in taking the frame 25-13.
Coming out of the intermission, both teams fought through
the first 35 points as GSU held a slight 13-12 advantage. The Eagles would then close
out the set on a 12-6 run to complete the sweep, 25-18.
Chattanooga returns to Maclellan Gym on Thursday night at 7
p.m. for a matchup against Furman before hosting Samford in the Southern Rail
