TEAM
- UTC captured its 14th Dr Pepper Classic (21 years) with a 74-59 win over Utah Valley tonight ... the Mocs improved to 6-8 overall while the Wolverines dropped to 7-9.
- Chattanooga senior Keegan Bell was named tournament MVP after scoring 25 points and dishing out 23 assists in the two-day affair ... UTC junior Drazen Zlovaric scored 20 points and had 20 boards to make the All-Tournament team ... also on the all-tourney squad were UVU's Geddes Robinson (15 pts and 24 boards in two games), Hampton's Darrion Pellum (43 points and 12 rebounds in two games) and Longwood's Antwan Carter (38 points and 12 rebounds in two games).
- The Mocs started hot from the floor, hitting its first six shots...UTC went cold for the rest of the first half, connecting on just 6-23 (26.1%) to take a 30-26 lead at the break.
- Chattanooga used a 12-4 run midway through the second half to push a 5-point 43-38 lead to a 13-point 55-42 cushion with just under 10 minutes left in the game.
- The Mocs hit four of their last eight 3-pt. FGs.
- UTC had a season-low nine turnovers ... it is the fewest TOs in a game since Chattanooga gave it away just seven times in a 69-68 win against The Citadel on Jan. 13, 2011.
- The Mocs were a season-best 86.7% (13-15) from the FT line tonight ... that is the best from the line for UTC since putting up the same numbers in a 75-49 loss at Richmond on Nov. 22, 2009.
- As a team, the Mocs are shooting 43.0% from the field, but are 50.9% (89-175) from the field in the last three games ... UTC is also shooting 37.4% from behind the arc on the year, but 41.1% (28-68) the last three games.
INDIVIDUAL
Senior Keegan Bell - Dr Pepper Classic MVP
- 15 points and a team-high seven assists.
- Shot 6-16 from the field and 3-10 from 3-pt. range.
- Finished the tournament with 25 points, 23 assists and 13 rebounds.
- Top-5 in the nation with 7.6 apg.
Senior Jahmal Burroughs
- Season-high seven rebounds in a season-high 25 minutes.
- Added four points on 2-3 shooting.
- Came into the DPC averaging 2.2 ppg and 2.0 rpg.
- Scored 14 points on 7-8 shooting and grabbed eight boards in the two games.
Senior Ricky Taylor
- 16 points on 5-8 shooting, 1-3 from 3-pt. range and 5-5 from the FT line.
- Added seven boards.
- Shooting 17-31 (54.8%) the last three games.
Senior Omar Wattad
- Team-high 19 points on 7-11 shooting, 5-9 from 3-pt. range.
- Added two boards and three assists.
- 18-36 (50.0%) from 3-pt. range the last four games.
- Has scored in double figures in four of last five outings.
Junior Drazen Zlovaric - Dr Pepper Classic All-Tournament Team
- First career double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
- Tied a career-high in rebounds for the third time.
- Shot 5-11 from the field and 1-2 from the FT line.
- Finished the two-day event with 20 points and 20 rebounds.
