Brown?s Ceiling Is Sky High

When John Shulman and his coaching staff began recruiting in 2010, there were a few areas they focused on.  Two were athleticism and size.  Incoming freshman Trey Brown (Brandon, Miss.) definitely hits the mark there.

"Trey is a young man who has a very high ceiling," Shulman noted when asked about the personable Brown.  "With his body type, a lean, athletic...really kind of reminds you of Chris Brown a little bit.  We want big, athletic threes and that's exactly what he is."

Brown made his on-campus visit the same weekend as the Mocs' football opener against Appalachian State nearly a year ago.  It didn't take long for his family to take to Chattanooga.  In fact, according to Shulman, Trey's family has enjoyed the Scenic City.

"Trey's family has really fallen in love with Chattanooga," Shulman added.  "They vacation now in Chattanooga.  The family brought Trey up for summer school and was sending me pictures from the Incline, on the zip line at Ruby Falls...everywhere.  They have bought into Chattanooga the school, and bought into Chattanooga the city."

Brown's all-around game is an attractive quality as well.  That's not just on the court, but also in the main three phases of college life at Chattanooga - academically, athletically and socially.  Shulman was quick to point out that while Trey is a great fit on the court, he is off it as well.

"We focused on getting better in all three phases of our mission statement," said the eighth-year head coach.  "Trey is a good student, one of the tops at Brandon by all accounts, and he has high character.  That matters as a Moc."

But it is on the court that most will notice Brown's efforts. That's what brought him to UTC.

"As a 6-7 wing, he really played anywhere from a 1-4 in in high school," said Shulman.  "Trey can really, really shoot it.  He needs to work on putting that ball on the floor.  He's always just been bigger and more athletic than opponents.

"But he can really shoot it and is long," Shulman concluded.  "He's really going to help us defensively. Trey gets us back to having great size at the three spot."
