CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at
Chattanooga football team welcomed 57 ladies to the 2011 Women's Football
Clinic Inspired by Memorial Health Care System held at Finley Stadium on
Friday. The interactive event that included the coaches and staff provided
participants with some fundamental football knowledge. A photo gallery of the
event can be viewed via the link at the top of the page.
The event kicked off at the stadium club with a social hour
that allowed the participants to talk one-on-one with head coach Russ Huesman,
assistant coaches and staff during the registration process.
With the room split off into two sections,
the group moved to the other side of the room for a presentation that helped the participants with a understand the basics of the game.
Offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield went through the
different types of plays that the Mocs execute in the running and passing game. The
defensive schemes, coverages and alignments that are run by Chattanooga were
discussed by defensive coordinator Adam Fuller. Strength and conditioning coach Scott Brincks talked about his role
in preparing the Mocs physically for gameday and an official discussed the rules of
the game.
To get ready for the on-field portion of the clinic, the group went down to the Mocs' locker
room in the endzone of the stadium and put on their uniform. Huesman provided a
gameday speech and the participants ran through the air-inflated helmet.
The women had the opportunity to learn further
about the offense working through throwing, catching and offensive linemen drills. The three groups moved through each station with the offensive coaches.
Next, the defensive coaches taught the participants about
the roles of the defensive players. Each groups rotated around the field learning
about the responsibilities of linemen, linebackers and defensive backs.
Tackling, dropping back into coverage and anticipating the snap were gone
through in detail.
The final on-field challenge was a punt, pass and kick
competition between 14 selected participants before everyone came together for a team
photograph.
Upon returning to the stadium club, the coaches went through
a difficult question and answer segment with the women as they were asked
questions ranging from what is their hidden talents to how they got into
coaching. The coaches' wives were on hand to answer questions about their roles
during the season and the challenges they face.
To conclude the event, a raffle was held and the women voted upon the best dressed, most enthusiastic, most valuable and
most improved participant at the clinc.
