TEAM
- Chattanooga improves to 8-9 overall and 2-2 in SoCon action with a 65-63 win over Appalachian State tonight ... the Mountaineers drop to 6-8 and 2-2 in league play.
- Junior Dontay Hampton scored on a tough layup with 0.8 seconds left to give the Mocs the win.
- UTC trailed by 11 (57-46) after a jumper from ASU's Omar Carter at the 9:07 mark ... Chattanooga closed the game on a 19-6 run for the win.
- Chattanooga held the Mountaineers scoreless for the last 2:13 of the game.
- The Mocs were without senior Omar Wattad (back). He averages 13.1 ppg and leads the SoCon with 3.3 threes per game. Freshman Lance Stokes started in his place.
- Chattanooga scored 36 of its 65 points in the paint.
- UTC's bench came up big, outscoring Appalachian State 17-2.
- The Mocs had their second-worst showing from 3-pt. range of the season, shooting 3-15 (20.0%)...only the 14.3% (2/14) shot at Butler was lower.
- UTC balanced the poor shooting from deep by connecting on 20-38 (52.6%) from inside the arc.
- Chattanooga turned the ball over a season-low eight times tonight...it is the second time this season the Mocs have had less than 10 in a game (9 vs. Utah Valley)...it is the fewest TOs in a game since Chattanooga gave it away just seven times in a 69-68 win against The Citadel on Jan. 13, 2011.
- UTC improves to 42-29 all-time against ASU...the home team has won 10 straight games in the series...Mocs are 8-1 against Appalachian State in McKenzie Arena under head coach John Shulman.
- Chattanooga started the game 3-10 from the FT line...made 13-15 to close out the game and finish 16-25 (64.0%).
- Chattanooga outrebounded ASU 39-37, improving to 7-1 when outrebounding its opponent.
- This was the Mocs first win on a Saturday this season (1-3).
INDIVIDUAL
Senior Keegan Bell
- Game-high seven assists, upping his UTC career record to 469.
- Despite shooting 0-11 from the floor and 0-8 from 3-pt. range at the time, hit a huge three with 2:02 on the clock to close the gap to 63-61...finished with three points on 1-13 shooting, 1-10 from 3-pt. range.
- Added four rebounds in 39 minutes of action.
Freshman Jahmal Burroughs
- Tied a career-high with 11 points on 5-6 shooting, 1-2 from the FT line.
- Also tied a career-high with a game-high eight rebounds.
- 26 boards in the last four games...averaged 1.9 per game before that stretch.
Junior Dontay Hampton
- Game-winning layup with 0.8 seconds left in the game.
- Finished with six points on 2-4 shooting, 2-4 from the FT line.
- Career-high seven rebounds.
- 23 minutes off the bench.
Senior Ricky Taylor
- Team-high 19 points.
- 12th straight game in double figures...10+ points in 15 of 17 games this season.
- Shot 7-15 from the field, 2-3 from 3-pt. range and 3-3 from the FT line.
- Season-high 36 minutes.
Junior Drazen Zlovaric
- 11 points on 4-7 shooting and 3-4 from the FT line.
- Fourth-straight game in double figures.
- Added seven boards.
