Lady Mocs Sweep Western Carolina 7-0

| By:
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team posted a 7-0 win at Western Carolina today.  The Lady Mocs improved to 13-4 overall and 5-3 in Southern Conference action with the win.  UTC's 13 wins are the most for the program since going 13-10 in 2003.

All eight Lady Mocs saw action today with UTC sweeping three doubles and six singles matches.  Junior Jenna Nurik (Roswell, Ga.) and freshman Claire Mulyadi (Semarang, Indonesia) started off the day with an 8-0 win over Sarah Walters and Taylor Casey and No. 3.

Sophomore Alexa Flynn (Memphis, Tenn.) and freshman Kaylene Chadwell (Franklin, Tenn.) followed up with a point-clinching 8-2 win over Ainhoa Iglesias Diaz and Megan McLinden at No. 1.  Seniors Emily Hangstefer (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and Brianna Wishing (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) closed out the doubles with an 8-3 win over Karen Jimenez and Katie Barry at No. 2.

Wishing and fellow senior Charlotte Bossy (Koekelare, Belgium) quickly put UTC up 3-0 with a pair of (6-0, 6-0) wins at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively.  It was Wishings first win in a dual this season as she moves to 3-2 in singles action.  Bossy improves to 5-1 in dual matches with her first SoCon win this year.

Mulyadi clinched the win with a (6-1, 6-1) victory over Barry at No. 4.  Mulyadi improved to 7-6 overall while snapping a five-match losing streak.  Nurik was next off the court with her 20th win of the season, a (6-4, 6-4) win over Diaz at No. 1.  She leads the team with a 20-8 overall mark and is two wins shy of her career-high.

Senior Shaina Singh (Vancouver, B.C.) moved up to No. 3 where she had a (7-5, 6-2) win over Jimenez.  Chadwell was forced to a third set and won the match when McLinden retired before the super-tiebreaker began.  It was the fifth-straight win for Chadwell.

"It was a good day for the Lady Mocs," stated head coach Jeff Clark.  "Everybody got to play and everyone got a win.  Our top three were challenged in their matches, but they all came through with wins, which was good to see."

Today's victory was the 25th straight for the Lady Mocs over Western Carolina.  UTC has not lost a dual match to the Catamounts since WCU and UTC began playing in the Southern Conference in 1986.

The Lady Mocs travel to Davidson, N.C., for another SoCon match tomorrow against the Wildcats.  First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) on the Covington Tennis Courts.  Be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for results and a full recap.
