MOCS MEN'S BASKETBALL QUOTES
Game No. 1 | Chattanooga vs. Hiwassee | McKenzie Arena | Nov. 14, 2014
Chattanooga Head Coach Will Wade
Thoughts on how the game fit the system:
"We had six guys in double figures and three more with nine, so that's what we want. We don't want to be so reliant on one person. We were very reliant on one person last season. We don't want to be that way this year, so it was nice to see the balance with the guys. That way you never know who's going to be able to step up or who's going to be able to make plays each night. You want to see that balance, and we had that tonight."
Were you pleased overall?
"Yes, I was pleased. I thought everybody played well. I was really pleased with Greg Pryor. I thought he showed the growth he had all summer. He played extremely well. It was good to have Justin out there. I think people can see he's a difference maker for us in a number of ways. He had 13 rebounds - seven offensive rebounds - and that's what he does. He kind of cleans up the garbage around the rim, high-energy, high-activity level around the rim. He didn't foul at all which is just great. We need him. We have to keep him in the game. I was pleased with a lot of guys."
On the defense's performance tonight
"I thought the defense was pretty good. One thing about us, if we're not aggressive and attacking, we're not very good. We're not built for passive basketball or passive games. That doesn't mean we're not built to get stops in half court, but we're built to do that off of transitioning from our press or transitioning from full court man to man with no traps. In the second half obviously we weren't going to press. We put up the press with about eight minutes to go in the first half. When that happens, we're not as aggressive by nature, and we're not a good team when we're not aggressive. We have to be the aggressor. Give them credit. They hit a bunch of contested, tough two's and tough jump shots. That will happen some nights."
Greg Pryor, guard, sophomore
Thoughts on the game
"We've really been preparing for this game since June 24, so it's been a long summer. The school year has been pretty long for us. We've been waiting for it, and it's finally here. We got to show our talent off. I think we're going to be a great team."
Was it hard to get into a flow early on?
"No, pretty much at practice we switch up the lineups so we're very comfortable playing with each other. We have a comfortable feel with each other's game. So the lineups really weren't the effect of the run that they made."
Justin Tuoyo, sophomore, forward
Thoughts on the game
"I feel like I had a pretty good game. It was my first time back in 18 months. I was nervous at the beginning of the game trying to get a little bit of rust off, as you can imagine. When the game kept going, I got real comfortable with it. It was really a preparation game for us. They did a good job. They came in here and played hard, but we're really just getting everything running."
