Mocs Score Seven Wins at Baras

Rain will limit Saturday play to one singles match per participant.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team won four singles and three doubles matches on the opening day of the UTC Steve Baras Fall Classic today. Competition was forced indoors due to inclement weather in Chattanooga, but action was completed for the first day.
UTC opened with doubles. Since space was limited with indoor play, doubles matches were one set to six with no-ad scoring. Senior John Peacey and junior Lucas Plesky opened with a big victory over Belmont's Caio Niel and Bruno Russo in the A draw. Peacey and Plesky lost later in the day and are in the A Draw third place match tomorrow.
Juniors Derrick Brown and Nic Wilson had a win in the B Draw while sophomore Michael Birnbaum and freshman Paul Lahue won in the C bracket. Both are in the third place match in their respective draws.
"I was impressed with some of our play today," stated head coach Carlos Garcia. "We had a good morning session and ran into some tougher tests in the afternoon. However, I am pleased with our improvement from the spring and happy to get our feet wet with our first action of the fall."
Plesky had the highest singles win, scoring a (6-2, 6-1) victory over Eastern Kentucky's Diogo Soares in the C bracket. Senior Nick Wingord scored a win in the D draw. Brown followed with a win in the E, while Birnbaum rounded it out with his win in the E bracket.
Rain has moved the men's Saturday action to the Racquet Club of Chattanooga, beginning at 11:00 a.m. (E.D.T.). Each participant will take part in one sinlges match, while the remaining doubles matches are canceled. Times for each match are updated on the attached draw sheets.
