University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior quarterback
Jacob Huesman is the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. He also earned honorable mention recognition for the College Football Performance Awards National Performer of the Week award after leading the Mocs to a 41-13 win over Western Carolina on Saturday.
Huesman turned in his 11
th career game with at least 100 yards passing and rushing as Chattanooga improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in SoCon action. He completed 14-of-15 passes for 191 yards in the win and rushed 20 times for 168 yards and a touchdown.
He started the game 10-10 passing in the first half, and his 93.3 completion percentage is the sixth highest single-game mark in SoCon history. He is currently No. 9 in the FCS with a 66.3 completion percentage on the year.
Huesman became UTC's all-time leader in passing yards on Saturday. He now has 7,342 yards, surpassing Chris Sanders' (1999-00) school record. That number is currently No. 7 in SoCon history.
It was the 12
th 100-yard rushing performance of his career, bringing Huesman just one shy of the school record held by Eldra Buckley (2005-06), James Roberts (1989-93) and Mike Smith (1978-80). With 216 points scored, he moved past Rodney Allen (1989-92) for second in school history.
This is Huesman's 12
th career SoCon Player of the Week honor. That is third all-time in league history, right behind Appalachian State's Armanti Edwards (2006-09) with 13 and Georgia Southern's Adrian Peterson (1998-01) with 14.
The Mocs head to Macon, Ga., to take on Mercer this weekend. UTC faces the Bears (3-5, 0-4 SoCon) at 4:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) on Saturday, Nov. 7. The game broadcasts on ESPN3 with a link available on the football schedule page on GoMocs.com.
