The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling team wrapped up final exams for the 2015 fall semester and is ready to get back on the mat. UTC opens Southern Conference action with a pair of duals on the road this week.
The Mocs visit VMI on Thursday, Dec. 10, for a 7:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) contest in Lexington, Va. UTC then travels to Buies Creek, N.C., for a 2:00 p.m. match against Campbell on Saturday, Dec. 12.

UTC fields a young lineup, with seven freshmen among the probables. The Mocs are currently 2-1 in duals, including wins over NAIA Cumberland and Southeastern. Chattanooga's lone loss was a tight 19-16 battle against No. 24 Stanford in the season opener.
The Mocs have also had strong showings in both the Hokie Open and the Wolfpack Open. UTC took home six individual titles in those two tournaments combined.

Scottie Boykin and
Jared Johnson are still in the rankings at 197 and heavyweight, respectively. Boykin is No. 18, while Johnson is ranked 12th, in this week's Intermat Top 20.
Chattanooga was picked to win the Southern Conference race for the 30th time since joining the league in 1978. UTC returns six starters and four NCAA qualifiers from last year's team that went 13-6 overall and 7-0 in league action.

Heath Eslinger is in his seventh season at UTC. A two-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year, he owns a 76-42 (.644) career dual record.

UTC won last year's meeting 35-3 to improve to improve to 25-6 all-time in the series. Chattanooga has won 12 in a row, with the last loss coming on Feb. 22, 2003, in a 26-12 setback at home.
Shabaka Johns scored VMI's only win in last year's meeting, a 2-1 decision over
Justin Lampe at 165. Potential rematches are possibilities at 174 and 197, based on the probable lineup.

Sean Mappes scored bonus points over Mark Darr in the regular season (MD, 13-2) and the SoCon Tournament (TF, 19-3) at 174.

Scottie Boykin also had two wins over Urayoan Garcia at 197 last season. He had a 14-5 major decision in the dual meet and won 10-5 in the SoCon Tournament.

Nathan Kraisser is a transfer from North Carolina and a former ACC Freshman of the Year. He last competed in 2013 and redshirted last season with Campbell.
184 could be the highlight of this dual. UTC senior
John Lampe and Ville Heino did not meet last season, but they split matches in 2013-14. Lampe won 4-3 in the dual, but Heino scored a 2-1 win in the 2014 SoCon Tournament.
