The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team ended its season with a 4-2 loss to ETSU in the semifinals of the Southern Conference Tournament today.  The Mocs dropped the doubles point and three of the first five singles matches in the loss.

"We ran into a really tough team today," stated head coach Jeff Clark.  "ETSU certainly earned the victory and were really tough in doubles.  We had some chances at both 1 and 2 to get back into it, but ETSU came up with the shots to win."

The Mocs scored a 4-3 win in the regular season matchup, rallying from a 3-1 deficit.  Chattanooga was unable to pull off that same comeback today.

Claire Mulyadi and Katie Polk played a great match at No. 3 doubles, scoring an 8-2 win over Ioanna Markesini and Melissa Esguerra.  ETSU took the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.

The Bucs went up 2-0 with a win at No. 2 singles, but junior Kayla Jones put the Mocs on the board with her win at No. 1.  She defeated Lyn Yee Choo (6-0, 6-4) in straight sets.

"Kayla Jones was awesome in singles," added Clark.  She finished the season on a tear and I am happy she got a great win against a tough player."

ESTU took the next point at No. 4 and had a one set lead at No. 3.  Senior Kaylene Chadwell battled back against Ana Gerbasi to force a tiebreaker in the second set.  She took that extra frame (7-4) and extended the match with her three set win (3-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4).

"Kaylene Chadwell fought her heart out," continued Clark.  "She battled back for a big three-set win to end her unbelievable career."

The Bucs advanced to tomorrow's finals with a win at No. 5.

Chattanooga finishes the season with an 18-4 overall record, reaching 18 wins for the third season in a row.  Chadwell, Mulyadi and Jovana Pecovski make up the senior class.  They posted a 70-20 team record over the last four years, one of the best runs for one class in school history.

"We are going to miss all of our seniors," said Clark.  "They all had wonderful careers, both in the classroom and on the court.  However, we are going to bounce back and go even farther next year."
