Women's Cross Country, Track Adds Seven to Roster

Seven newcomers bolster women's cross country and track and field rosters

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- University of Tennessee at Chattanooga cross country and track and field head coach Bill Guatier added seven new faces to the 2015-16 rosters.
 
Transfer Brianna Nelson joins the Mocs along with locals Madison Watson of GPS and Sydney Gautier from Baylor. Also on the list is Nicole Buehrle, Haley Morris, Nicole Elmore and Lily McKee.

Madison Watson, a graduate of the Girl's Preparatory School (GPS) in Chattanooga led the Bruisers to a third place finish at the Tennessee State cross country meet and is a two-time all-state cross country performer.
 
"Madison will be counted on to help in the fall. She comes from a strong GPS program."
 
Haley Morris, from Lenoir City, has been very consistent throughout her high school career with numerous all-conference and all-region titles. Fourth in the region in cross country. Ran a PR of 11:20 in the 3200. Adds depth to an already strong XC program.
 
Nicole Buehrle from Hazelton High School in Philadelphia, is a strong middle distance runner. She has a 2:20 PR in the 800m and a 5:08 in the 1600m. She is a three-time conference all-star, a three-time district medalist and a two-time state qualifier. As a member of the track team, she set school records in the 800m and 1600m and anchored the 4x800m, Mid-Distance Medley and Distance Medley school record-holding relay teams.
 
"Nicole should fit right in," Gautier said.
 
Sydney Gautier is an all-state performer in cross country and the 4x800m in track. She was 15th in state in 2011 and comes from a strong Baylor program who claimed a state title. Sydney was team captain as a senior and holds the school record for the 2000 meter Steeple Chase. In her junior year, she was a member of the 4x800m all-state relay team that also claimed the region title.
 
She is the daughter of head coach Bill Gautier.
 
"She has battled injury, but will be a great addition to the team," Gautier said. "As a father it will exciting to spend more time with her. As a coach, I know she has potential and I can help her get back to form."
 
Brianna Nelson, a transfer from Wisconsin-Eau Claire, was named the Jefferson High School Female Athlete of the Year in 2014. She is a three-year letterwinner in cross country and lettered one year with the track and field team.  Nelson received all-area honorable mention in 2013 and was named All-Conference First Team. She earned All-Conference Second Team honors in 2012 and was Honorable Mention in 2011. In track, she holds the school record for the 800m and was on the school record-holding 4x800m team.
 
Nicole Elmore from Maryville High School is a section champ in the 100m Hurdles and a state meet qualifier. She comes from an outstanding program at Maryville. Her resume will bolster the team with sprint events
 
The Mocs seventh newcomer this year is Lily McKee from Knoxville. She was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Bearden High School in both cross country and track and field. She qualified for the state meet in her freshman year and medaled in five varsity meets. She was the anchor for her team' 4x800 meter relay team and twice was the heat winner at regionals.
 
The Mocs open the season Saturday, September 5 at the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. The women's 5K race will begin at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time followed by the men's 8K.
