GAME NOTES | ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs finally get to debut in the McKenzie Arena. They welcome Hiwassee at 7 p.m., looking to rebound from an 0-2 start.

While the 0-2 start is less than ideal, the squad showed significant fight in a loss to 2017 CBI Champion Wyoming in the opener last Friday. Cross-country travel and Conference USA strong-men UAB exposed the youthful Mocs Monday night.

But that's in the rear-view mirror. Whether 0-2 or 2-0, the task is the same each time out for Coach Lamont Paris' squad.

"The mantra remains the same all year," he said. "We have to grow. We need to keep improving and getting better every time out. You have to recognize what you've done and they mistakes you've made to see the areas you have to focus on most.

"Excited to get back here and play in McKenzie."

The contest is the first of four straight in the Roundhouse's friendly confines. Redshirt freshman guard David Jean-Baptiste leads the Mocs averaging 11.0 points per game. Freshman post James Lewis, Jr., adds 10.5 points per contest.

ALSO HEARD
Here's some additional sound that didn't work its way into the story…

Leading scorer David Jean-Baptiste on his first game in McKenzie Arena:
"I look forward to playing hard for the home crowd. First home game coming back from two road losses, I want to give the home crowd what they deserve. Show that we still have fight in us…show that we'll play hard for our fans. First home game in my career so it's special."

SERIES HISTORY
The Mocs are 7-0 all-time against Hiwassee, 5-0 in the "modern" era. This is the third straight home opener against the Tigers all on Nov. 16.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
  • 36-5 (.878) in the DI era in home openers.
  • Foreman's 3-4 performance from 3pt range at UAB was the fifth time in 30 career appearances he's made three or more, ninth making multiple triples. Impressive considering he's averaging 12.8 minutes per game over that span.
  • It's been a good career beginning for David Jean-Baptiste. The redshirt freshman tallied double figures at Wyoming (10) and UAB (12) serving as the sixth man. He's averaging 11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per contest shooting 50.0 percent (9-18) from the field, 33.3 percent (3-9) from 3pt range and 50.0 percent (1-2) at the free throw line.
