2) Details
A strange occurrence has come across the offensive line. Or should we write Strange, as in freshman Cole Strange. Not to single out one student-athlete as the line as a whole has shown marked improvement over the last three games coinciding with the redshirt freshman entering the lineup at left guard.

The running game in particular shows massive growth. Over this small sample size, the running backs have 366 yards on 74 carries, an average just under five yards per carry (4.95). The group had 296 yards on 104 attempts in the prior six contests, 2.85 per tote.

Senior RB Darrell Bridges enjoys the benefits of the improved play along with getting to follow FB Chris Jones into the fray. Over the above-mentioned span, he's averaging 96.7 yards per game with 296 total rushing yards.

The starters over that period from left to right: LT Malcolm White, LG Strange, C Josh Cardiello, RG Brian Marshall & RT Taylor Helton.

3) History
  • Saturday is the 24th meeting in the series. The Terriers have a one-game lead, 12-11, with the first matchup coming on Oct. 15, 1927, a 38-7 Mocs win in Chattanooga.
  • Chattanooga has won three of the last four in the series after a dominant run by the Terriers since joining the SoCon.
  • Four of the past six meetings were decided by a single score with UTC winning one of the quartet.

4) Turning the Takeaway Tide
The Mocs had a drought of more than 283 minutes without a takeaway, a span of more than four games in clock time. In fact, in 492:45 to start the season, the Mocs forced six turnovers, or one every 82 minutes. The defense (and one on special teams) recorded seven over the final 47:15 of clock time at Samford, or one every 6:45 of playing time.

There were two highlights. Taylor Reynolds first career interception brought a lot of playful jabs at his return abilities from throughout the team and staff. Lucas Webb's pick-6 not only set the SoCon record with his fourth, but it was his 13th career interception tying Bucky Wolford (1965-67) and Phillip Aldridge (1982-85) for the school record.

5) Three Notes to Notice
  1. Tae Davis (defense) and Victor Ulmo (special teams) earned SoCon Player of the Week recognition this week from the league office. Read more about it here.
  2. Junior RB Alex Trotter had a career-high 58 yards rushing at Samford including key runs of 14 and 17 yards in the game-winning field goal drive. The 17-yard dash came on a pivotal 4th-and-1 near midfield. Trotter and Bridges combined for 147 yards on 36 carries.
  3. The defense recorded a season-high eight tackles for loss in each of the last two games. The disruptors: Davis (4.0), Taylor Reynolds (2.5), Dale Warren (2.0), Hawk Schrider (2.0), Michael Bean (1.5), Isaiah Mack (1.5), Tavon Lawson (1.0), Joshua Phillips (1.0) and Jerrell Lawson (0.5).
