Mocs Open Spring Schedule in Alabama

Stuart Thomas and the Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team opens the spring slate Monday at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate.
TOURNAMENT NOTES | LIVE SCORING | PAIRINGS
MOBILE---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team returns to the tee Monday for the two-day, 54-hole Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. It's the second straight year the Mocs open play at Magnolia Grove Crossings Course.
They'll look to replicate last year's strong performance finishing second to Auburn and four shots ahead of Wake Forest. The 12-under 852 was the low 54-hole total for the season.
The squad finished the fall strong playing the final 108 holes 6 under with a pair of sixth-place finishes. Brooks Thomas (T5th, Firestone Invite) and Etienne Brault (T9th, AutoTrader.com Collegiate) posted the top 10s of the campaign.
The 36-hole, shotgun start begins at 8 a.m., Central time, Monday morning. The Mocs, paired with Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Miss, open off holes 8-11. Click the links above for tournament notes, live scoring and pairings.

On getting the spring schedule started:
"Really ready to get this spring started. We finished the fall well after a tough start. Excited by how we played [overall] in qualifying. We had a great tournament in Mobile last year, and it would be great to get a similar strong start this spring too."
On the starting five:
"Will this be our starting five in April when we head to Pinehurst [for the SoCon Championships]? That's to be determined. You can really tell how hard these guys worked over the winter to be prepared for this early start. It's a solid five-man lineup and the two individuals were really close to making the cut. It'll be interesting to follow all spring long."

- This is the Mocs fifth entry in South Alabama's spring event. The first two were in 2007 and 2008 at Herron Bay Country Club finishing first and second before finishing runner-up again last year. Over 12 rounds, the squad is -2 in the event (287.83).
- The team averaged 296.33 shots per 18 over first six rounds...288.67 over last nine of the fall.
- Wes Gosselin shot his first round in the 60s opening with a 69 at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate. It was the 10th of his career. His next par or better round will be his 50th at UTC.
- Phillip Hickam turned in back-to-back top 10s in individual events after the team's fall slate finished. He tied for seventh at Trevecca's fall invite and was runner-up at the Georgia Southern Indy shooting 4-under 212.
- Brooks Thomas is 7 under over his last 10 rounds with a 71.0 scoring average with six par or better cards.
